Release of the Black Commuters’ Guide: Brooklyn

National Action Network has released the Black Commuters’ Guide: Brooklyn. The guide warns Black commuters who travel to Brooklyn about subway stations where anti-Black policing occurs. The guide identifies Captain Keith Shine and NYPD Transit District 33 as being responsible for some of the worst instances of anti-Black policing in subways. We are distributing the guide nationally.

In 2016, 50 percent of the people arrested for fare evasion were young Black men. NYPD District 33 has some of the highest arrest rates for fare evasion in Brooklyn. These arrests occur disproportionately in majority Black communities.

We encourage every Black person who travels to Brooklyn to use the guide and be vigilant. See the complete guide: http://nationalactionnetwork.net/black-commuters-guide-brooklyn/
